The Rolex ‘Wimbledon’ Datejust: what the slate and green dial is

The Cotswold Jeweller · 14 October 2026

Among Rolex nicknames, the ‘Wimbledon’ is one of the most elegant. It isn't an official model name. It describes a particular Datejust dial.

What is a Wimbledon dial?

A ‘Wimbledon’ Datejust has a slate grey dial with green Roman numerals outlined in black, and Rolex's name and coronet in green. It's been offered on modern Datejusts, often in Rolesor (steel and gold).

Why “Wimbledon”?

Rolex has been the official timekeeper of the Wimbledon Championships for decades, and the dial's green echoes the colours of the tournament. Collectors gave it the name, and it stuck.

Buying one

  • Check the reference and dial code against the papers, since dials can be swapped.
  • The green printing should be crisp and even, with the black outlines intact.
  • Decide between a fluted bezel (more dressy) and a smooth bezel (more understated), and between 36 mm and 41 mm.
