Selling a watch on consignment: how it works and what it costs
The Cotswold Jeweller · 14 October 2026

Consignment means someone sells your watch on your behalf. You stay the owner until it sells, you agree the price, and you only pay a fee if the sale goes through. Here's how it works with us.
How it works
- We see your watch: we examine it, check it against The Watch Register, and agree the asking price, your minimum price and how long we'll market it, in writing.
- We present it to buyers: to our clients, on our website and on Instagram.
- We handle the sale: enquiries, viewings and payment, so you don't deal with time-wasters.
- You're paid: the sale price less our fee, once the sale has completed.
What it costs
| Final sale price | Our fee |
|---|---|
| Under £50,000 | 15% |
| £50,000 or more | 10% |
| If it doesn't sell | No fee |
For example, a watch that sells for £12,000 costs £1,800 in fees, so you receive £10,200. A watch that sells for £60,000 costs £6,000, so you receive £54,000.
Is consignment right for you?
Consignment suits owners who'd like a strong price without the hassle of selling privately, and who aren't in a hurry. If you'd rather a quicker sale, we can also help you sell outright. Tell us about your watch and we'll talk you through both.
